We are pleased to announce our individually packed wooden cutlery packs are available to buy.
Wooden cutlery has become increasingly popular for food catering businesses exploring eco-friendlier alternatives to plastic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to businesses in the country.
Packed disposables have offered a solution to businesses aiming to reduce contact wherever possible. Not only are packed disposables convenient for storage, they reduce contact compared to separate individual pieces. They are also easy to dispose of.
We specialise in environmentally friendly catering supplies and food packaging products. Since the increased interest in environmental impact of disposable products we’ve been championing our ever increasing range of eco-friendly alternative products.
The goal has always been to offer an environmentally alternative to every range we supply; this gives customer a choice between using a regular disposable item or a biodegradable product where this is desired or required.
With any shift in buying patterns and product demand it’s important to look at any other secondary environmental factors which might also be relevant. With biodegradable products for example, it’s common for plastic (polyethylene) coatings to be replaced with natural PLA (cornstarch) layers. The secondary impact here could be the knock-on effect with crops grown for food production with focus shifting to supply market demand for PLA. We go through a detailed certification procedure with any supplier or manufacturer of these materials to ensure that the raw materials are sourced in a sustainable fashion. The manufacturer needs to have a infrastructure in place for obtaining their raw materials that doesn’t impact local food production or the local environment.
Another example might be the increased use of wood / paper based products over plastics. We’ve seen plastic straws partially replaced with paper straws for example, and a huge increase in the sale of wooden cutlery. This all increases demand for paperboard and birch wood respectively in these examples. Again we always seek certification from the raw material sources to ensure that any forestry is conducted in a sustainable fashion (https://www.rainforest-alliance.org/articles/what-is-sustainable-forestry), new forests should be planted as trees are harvested; normally with specific types of quick growing birch.
Our new range of bamboo products are another excellent example of a focus on sustainability. Bamboo is an extremely fast growing plant, anything harvested for pump can be replaced extremely quickly minimising any environmental impact.
Please get in touch with our team with any requirements you may have for environmentally friendly biodegradable catering supplies, we’re always on hand to offer advise where required.
Our ever expanding range of wooden cutlery now includes a birch wood version of the disc stirrer. We’ve offered this item for some time as a disposable plastic item, the product that has proved popular in pubs, bars and clubs for use in cocktails.
We’re keen to keep up with market demand when it comes to trends in disposables and we’ve found that a lot of venues and sites are seeking to move away from non-essential plastic-based disposable items, with disc stirrers being a good example of this.
Our plastic disc stirrers are completely recyclable, as long as they’re sorted and sent to a suitable facility, or simply put in with plastic waste they get recycled and don’t end up at landfill. The problem arises when the correct measures are no in place to collect the discarded disc stirrers. At event sites there will often be a general waste bin instead of several bins offered for rec ycling purposes, in these instances the plastics will not be sorted correctly and recycling is not possible.
Our wooden disc stirrers are made from 100% pure birch wood; they contain no coatings or plastic layers. This means they’re 100% biodegradable and compostable. It also sends the message to customers that you’re thinking about the environment when it comes to disposables – at some types of venue or festival this can prove to be extremely important with the increased public focus on sustainability and environmental impact.
These items are available straight away from stock, either as a pack of 100 or a full box of 1,000. Please see our range of biodegradable wooden cutlery for more information.
We’ve just taken delivery of our new shipment of wooden and bamboo cutlery, fresh in today are our bamboo chopsticks. These are designed to complement our ever expanding range of wooden and biodegradable cutlery, giving customers a wide range of options when it comes to outdoor catering or just disposables for the home.
Our bamboo chopsticks are made from virgin grade bamboo, a fantastically sustainable alternative to paper based products. Bamboo is extremely fast growing meaning it can be farmed in a highly sustainable fashion; this means an extremely low environmental impact and a very ecologically sound end product.
This item fits into our wide range of biodegradable tableware, a range that we see as the future of catering disposables. We take environmental considerations seriously and source our products accordingly. The bamboo chopsticks for example are a 100% biodegradable natural product, they’ll break down naturally when disposed of. This is especially useful at outdoor events when used commercially; it’s very common for arenas to require vendors use biodegradable disposables. These are a great alternative to the plastic variety; even the sleeves around the chopsticks contain no oil based plastics.
New to our range of biodegradable / compostable products are the cPLA compostable cutlery products. These are made from plant-based corn starch and conform to all relevant standards regarding compostability, they will naturally break down and contain no plastics.
To differentiate these from the standard range of disposable plastic cutlery, they feature an eye catching satin effect which makes them pleasant and tactile to use. They also feature the compostable branding so it’s clear the item is not a plastic based product.
There is a strong trend at the moment for customers to reduce their dependence on single use plastics, these new cPLA based cutlery items allow customers to replace their plastic cutlery while still offering a disposable option. In addition, these are actually far more rigid than the most common grades of disposable knives, forks etc – they’ve been given a much more premium feel.
Now available from stock is our new range of disposable Wooden Cutlery, made from virgin grade Birch Wood. The vast majority of our products follow our strong environmental code of ethics and these new products are no exception. Although they’re made from virgin grade (food safe) material, we only buy from manufacturers who source their raw materials from sustainable and well managed forests.
These products are designed as a more tactile and aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional Polystyrene cutlery, great for occasions where form and function are of equal importance.
The wooden range consists of 5 main items at present, these are:
