Guide: How to choose plastic pint glasses

With so many plastic pint glasses available to buy, which ones do you choose?

Every glass is different, so we’ve put together a guide to help you make the right choice when buying your glasses.

Quality is guaranteed with all the plastic glasses at Inn Supplies – no matter what the type is.

Low-cost glasses

Low cost pint glasses

For many, the price is the most important factor.

Flexi pint glasses provide value-for-money and feature a slightly opaque appearance.

Made from polypropylene, the plastic has a high degree of natural flexibility which makes it very resistant to cracking or other similar damage. When squashed, it leaves no small shards of plastic.

These types of glasses are used throughout Europe and deliver a consistent value, year-in-year-out. Glasses are CE Marked and suitable for commercial use.

Eco-friendlier glasses

Biodegradable pint glasses

PLA biodegradable pint glasses offer a great environmentally friendly alternative to traditional oil-based plastic glasses.

Perfect for beer, cider, or any cold drinks, these glasses are made from PLA, a renewable material which will degrade in landfill. Glasses are CE Marked and suitable for commercial use.

Strong glasses

Strong pint glasses

Katerglass pint glasses are widely known as one of the strongest pint glasses available.

These glasses offer unparalleled strength because they are made from tough polypropylene plastic. Slightly flexible, glasses offer a premium feel.

Thick sidewalls guarantee durability and rolled rims remove sharp edges. Glasses are CE Marked and suitable for commercial use.

Unbreakable glasses

Reusable pint glasses

If your pint glass must be reusable and unbreakable, a crystal polystyrene or polycarbonate glass is the one to choose.

Reusable pint glasses come in two ranges.

Our ECON range includes cost-effective “light use” products, whilst the ELITE range offers a more premium and heavier feel. Glasses are CE Marked where stated and suitable for commercial use.

Are cup carriers recyclable?

Cup carriers have become a must-have for coffee shops and fast-food businesses.

Carriers available on the market today are commonly made of pulp fibre, which is made by combining water and recycled paper. This also includes recycled newspapers and similar recycled materials.

Made from such sustainable material means that they are recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable.

The natural insulating properties of these carriers also makes them perfectly suited to hot drinks, tolerant up to 100°C.

An eco-friendlier solution to plastic

A cup carrier can hold similar qualities to plastic. But perhaps not as strong as a plastic carrier, it is still sturdy for all types of drinks and flexible by design.

It doesn’t contribute to landfill, leaving no unnecessary waste.

How to recycle cup carriers

Moulded pulp can be recycled using your local council recycling scheme or composted at home.

Even if it isn’t recycled, moulded pulp can biodegrade in as little as 6 months.

Our 2-cup carriers and 4-cup carriers are frequently bought with ripple cups for takeaway coffee, and wooden stirrers.

Product size guide: Biodegradable soup cups

Choose three sizes of biodegradable soup cups suitable for soups, pasta, snacks, and ice cream.

Full recyclable, these soup cups are environmentally-friendly alternatives to regular soup cups on the market. You can be confident to know these cups can compost and biodegrade naturally.

Apps helping boost Britain’s delivery and takeaway

Data compiled by CGA’s Hospitality at Home Tracker shows a surge of delivery and takeaway sales from third party apps.

UK pizza delivery and takeaway service

Delivery platforms such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats accounted for nearly half (49.7%) of restaurant and pub groups’ sales, while eat-in contributed to the remainder (50.3%).

Overall, delivery and takeaway sales were 273% higher in May this year versus May 2019, despite the return of eating indoors in the second half of the month.

Karl Chessell, CGA’s business unit director, said: “While many consumers seized the chance to eat out again, hospitality’s reopening for inside service isn’t diminishing the appeal of deliveries and takeaways.

“With the quality and convenience of at-home ordering rising, the lockdowns of the last 15 months have firmly embedded it in people’s habits. It will be fascinating to see where the balance of eating-out and ordering-in settles as COVID-19 restrictions loosen.”

The difference between ECON and ELITE glassware

The Difference Between ECON And ELITE

Here at Inn Supplies, we offer two ranges of reusable glassware.

These two ranges, ECON and ELITE, are both high in quality and made of strong shatterproof plastic giving the appearance of glass. Although not significantly different, the most suitable choice is completely dependent on the intended usage.

ECON range

Made from virgin food-grade crystal polystyrene, glasses in the ECON range are cost-effective “light use” products. These glasses are fully reusable and ideal for general purpose or outdoor use. They are also lightweight.

Popular products in this range include champagne flutes, wine glasses, hiball glasses and shot glasses.

ELITE range

Made from shatterproof polycarbonate plastic, ELITE glasses offer a heavier feel and have been tested in excess of 500 glass washer cycles.

These glasses are commonly the best go-to choice for commercial environments such as pubs, bars, and venues.

Popular products in this range include remedy glasses, reusable coffee mugs, plastic bowls and plastic jugs.

Is there are a difference in appearance?

No. For all intents and purposes, both ECON and ELITE ranges look very similar; the polycarbonate glasses in the ELITE range are thicker and heavier however.

Both ranges equally give the appearance of glass.

Are they suitable for commercial use?

CE Marked Glasses

Be confident to know our reusable glasses are CE Marked and approved for commercial use. Please check the product descriptions for the relevant information.

When can you drink inside pubs in the UK?

Pubs Serving Drinks On May 17

Pubs and restaurants in England will be allowed to reopen indoors from Monday 17 May.

In step three of the government’s ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown, restrictions on social mixing will be lifted and customers will be allowed to sit indoors when dining.

According to government advice, strict Covid safety guidelines will still apply. Here’s what you can expect as lockdown rules ease.

Customer numbers

The rule of six or two households in a gathering will apply.

Groups beyond the legal limits will not be served indoors.

Test and Trace

Customers will need to provide contact details to help the NHS Test and Trace system. It will be a legal requirement that these details are recorded.

Pubs will also need to have a system in place to ensure information can be collected from customers who do not have a smartphone or don’t want to use the app.

Ordering food

No substantial meal will be required for customers to enjoy a drink inside, but customers will need to order, eat and drink while seated to avoid queues at the bar.

When customers are out of their seats – for example, to be shown to their table or going to the bathroom – a face covering will need to be worn and social distancing guidelines will need to be adhered to.

Face masks

Customers will be required to wear face coverings inside premises, other than when seated at a table to eat or drink.

Can you put takeaway boxes in the microwave?

Can you put takeaway boxes in the microwave?

Have you ever wondered if your takeaway box can go in a microwave? We’ve got the answers to all these and more.

In this blog post, we will focus on two of the most common types of takeaway boxes used in the UK – paper and plastic.

Can you put paper takeaway boxes in the microwave?

In most cases. Paperboard is an environmentally-friendly material due to its manufacturing process. In most cases, paperboard is sustainably-sourced and made from 100% recycled material.

Depending on the type of paper it is made from, common takeaway boxes made from paperboard are microwavable. Paper towels, wax paper, parchment paper, paper plates and bowls are also fine in the microwave.

Before putting any paper takeaway box into the microwave, we advise you to check the packaging instructions to make sure. It is also advisable to avoid heating for prolonged periods of time.

You can be confident knowing paper takeaway boxes such as our range of Dispopak white and brown food boxes can be microwaved safely.

Can you put plastic takeaway boxes in the microwave?

No. It is not safe to put common plastic takeaway boxes in the microwave or oven.

Due to its low melting point, plastic carries a risk of melting. This can cause unpleasant smells, damage to appliances, and dangerous fires.

Safe plastics

There are some exceptions when it comes to plastic. Containers made from polypropylene (commonly abbreviated to PP) can be used in the microwave without risks associated with standard plastic.

This is because they are heat resistant and will not deform or melt in the microwave. The plastic will not react with fats or oils, even when subjected to high temperatures; which make them a fantastic choice for use in takeaways and food catering businesses.

What not to put in the microwave

Many boxes and containers not safe for the microwave include:

  • Aluminium containers
  • Containers with metal rims
  • Boxes with plastic and metal handles
  • Styrofoam products
  • Anything to be used in the cold such as butter tubs and yogurt containers
