We’re often asked by customers which plastic tumblers we’d recommend for pints and halves; if a strong plastic tumbler is required our recommendation is always for the Katerglass range of disposable glasses.
There are a huge range of plastic pint and half pint glasses available in the UK, most of these will be of the ‘flexi’ style vacuum / thermoformed variety. These are great multipurpose items and have the advantage of a very low unit price, however the cheaper thermoformed construction does result in a glass that’s thinner and can have an inconsistent wall thickness.
Katerglass tumblers are the only injection moulded CE marked polypropylene tumbler around and offer unparalleled strength. They’re a heavier weight item, the injection moulding process also results in a glass that has a uniform wall thickness all over.
As these are a premium disposable product they also feature a rolled rim for drinking comfort, this means no sharp edges. We actually find that customers often end up washing out these glasses and reusing them due to their strength.
There are a number of reasons why you might require a strong plastic pint / half pint glass. If you’re serving glass for example, a stronger glass means no spillages as the glass will not flex when held. We’ve also found that there can be cost advantages too, despite the glasses being more expensive. If a customer picks up a thinner glass it’s quite common practice to take 2 glasses instead of 1, thereby doubling the cost per drink!
Katerglass tumblers are available in a range of popular sizes, we stock the following:
New in today are our classic brown food boxes in the most common sizes used for commercially takeaways. As with the recently launched biodegradable noodle boxes, these are PLA coated biodegradable versions of our regular takeaway boxes; no PE (polyethylene) plastic coating. We’ve introduced these in an eco-themed natural brown kraft colour; this is unbleached card so no chemicals or bleaching agents are used in the production.
We’ve launched a full range of sizes for these new boxes including:
If you’ve ever received a box similar to this from a takeaway establishment then there’s a strong possibility it’s one of these sizes; they’re industry standard sizes and cover nearly all of the most common uses.
Due to the standardisation of these boxes, if you wanted to switch from our regular white or brown food boxes to the biodegradable version, you simply purchase the same size (No 2 for example). These will have the same dimensions as the item you’re already using, even if it’s from another manufacturer. This makes switching to biodegradable boxes very simple indeed.
Regular readers may have noticed a trend with most of the new products we’ve launched this year; they’ve all been biodegradable environmentally friendly alternatives to popular existing products. Today’s product update is no exception! We’ve got an extensive range of disposable takeaway food boxes; these are available as a few main varieties:
White folding food boxes (no1 – no8)
Brown kraft folding food boxes (no1 – no8)
Round smart serve noodle boxes (16oz – 32oz)
Square folding noodle boxes (16oz – 32oz)
We’ve just taken delivery of biodegradable versions of the 16oz and 26oz round noodle boxes, as well as the 26oz square folding noodle boxes. These are the most popular items from the takeaway noodle box range so it made sense to offer a biodegradable alternative for businesses looking to switch to biodegradable stock.
Similar to the rest of our range, the main difference with this range is that the polyethylene plastic lining is replaced with a PLA cornstarch based lining. This means that the lining will break down naturally, unlike items with a plastic-based lining.
To clearly identify these items as a biodegradable product they carry our green stripe branding, the items themselves are natural unbleached kraft paper.
We’ve got another new addition to our ever expanding range of wooden cutlery, this time in the shape of the Wooden Ice Cream Spade. These are specifically designed for mobile ice cream vendors, takeaway ice cream shops or even for product sampling.
The flat bottomed “shovel” design means they’re great for digging into pots of ice cream, often using traditional small spoons can prove tricky with more solid ice creams.
As with the rest of our wooden cutlery range, these are made from virgin grade birch wood. We’re an ethical supplier and only source our raw materials from sustainable forests.
As these are pure wood based items with no coating or plastics, they’re 100% natural and biodegradable products. They’ll degrade naturally and can be composted.
Wooden cutlery is a fantastic and increasingly popular alternative to plastic cutlery. It offers a natural earthy appearance and a more tactile texture; this gives the impression of a more premium product. Biodegradability is becoming increasingly important are we’re committed to offering the widest possible range of biodegradable, compostable and ethical alternatives to single use items.
